6 Free Websites Full of Athlete-Enhancing Goodness

If your first thought upon seeing this post’s title was,

“But Jim, why do I need anything but the CORE1 blog?”

Then pat yourself on the back. You rock.

But despite our own blog being a powerhouse of ahtlete-enhancing awesomeness – it’s good to get a variety of voices, opinions and mindsets on the subject. Below is our carefully put-together list of sites that contain really great information.

Some are clean and well-organized. Some are grungey and make you feel like you’re in some old-school workout dungeon. But they’re all genuine, packed with great info, and highly recommended.

Note: These are not in any particular order! Each of them rocks in its own unique way. Okay, on with the list…

1. Active

http://beta.active.com

Active has tips for practically every athlete imaginable. They have great walkthroughs on exercise routines and exercises for different goals. So if you want to learn how to run faster, jump higher, run longer, the proper technique for dead lifts, jumping dumbbell squats, or anything else…

Take a look.

2. LiveStrong

Live Strong (despite the unfortunate turn of events of its founder, Lance Armstrong) is an amazing resource in health and wellness. If you have a question about an ingredient on a label, how to sleep better, if you want tips on tracking nutrition, logging what you eat, knowing what to eat, educating yourself about how different foods impact the body, what’s really inside of chicken nuggets, etc., etc., etc….

Then this is for you.

3. Zach Even-Esh

If you need to bulk up and gain strength fast, this guy’s site is for you. We’re huge fans of Zach here at CORE1 because his tactics are grungey, barebones, and no-nonsense. His site contains info from world-renowned experts in muscle and strength building on nutrition, workouts, mindset, toning, bulking, what to eat, when to eat, and more.

Even if you don’t want to bulk up, I highly recommend checking out the motivational posts on his blog.

Disclaimer: Some strong language.

4. Brainy Quote

Sometimes you just need a dose of the feel-goods, or a shot of inspiration, or a rude awakening style wake-up call. BrainyQuote contains powerful quotes from some of history’s most amazing people. Step inside their shoes for a moment as you read through quotes that could honestly change your life.

After all, many-a-coach has said that becoming great is 90% up in your head, 10% in your body.

The actual percentages may vary – but your mindset and where your heart’s at are crucial for reaching your potential. Spend some time browsing this site and let history’s greatest men and women teach you a thing or two.

5. Everyday Paleo

The Paleo Diet is a huge fad diet right now. However, unlike a lot of other fad diets, this one’s got a lot of substance to it. Now I’m not saying you should go and be Paleo. But because Paleo is all about a high-protein, natural, clean, unprocessed diet… The recipes and advice on this site are good for any athlete.

If you’re ever wondering what to eat to keep your strength up, boost your energy, and make your body feel great – check out some of the recipes on this site. They even have healthy dessert recipes that don’t contain a single bad ingredient – but they taste just as great as the bad stuff.

Note: Talk to your doctor before making any major diet changes.

6. No Meat Athlete

And finally, here’s another site about food for athletes. Vegetarians will love this one. If you’re a meat eater – you can still follow the advice and recipes but substitute in your favorite meat. Again, this guy is all about eating clean. You don’t want chemical-filled foods that do all kinds of damage to your body. They just suck away your energy, and slow you down when you need your energy most.

Eating clean and healthy isn’t as hard as you think it might be. And it can be just as tasty as the bad stuff. Follow the advice on this site and the Paleo site above and you’ll find all sorts of “cheat” foods that you can cook in a super-healthy way.

Note: Talk to your doctor before making any major diet changes.
