To Jump Higher, It’s Not About The Shoes

Wondering how to jump higher?

There are many sports where jumping high can make a difference between winning and losing. The most obvious one is basketball, where it can be a game winning asset.

However, jumping is important in a whole range of other sports as well. For example, jumping can be critical at key moments in any game of football.

Naturally, there are a number of gymnastic and field sports where jumping is critical, too. Often, you only get one opportunity to achieve peak performance.

There are many different aspects to jumping higher:

– Muscular development in the legs for lift – Core strength for balance and coordination – “Explosive” speed, the ability to burst

Most of the time, athletes end up focusing on only one part of the issue and they might not get the performance that they want. To jump higher, you need to keep all of the different factors in mind.

Using A Balanced Approach To Jump Higher

Core strength is a tremendous part of your overall balance. How balanced you are when you initially start moving will help to determine whether you are able to hit peak speed and move gracefully into the vertical ascent.

Without core strength, you will begin your jump from a place of imbalance that will make it difficult for you to control your ascent the way you would like to. You also won’t be able to achieve the peak that you want.

Naturally, muscle development of the legs is key. You can achieve this through a large number of different resistance machines at the gym. The standard exercise bike is not usually enough to achieve excellence here, although that is another option you have for maintenance.

Explosive speed refers to the ability to move quickly and suddenly. You need strong, highly functional fast-twitch muscle fibers to achieve your goals here. Building your legs is step one, but it isn’t the only part of jumping high.

You’ll notice that when you jump, your entire body gets into the action.

For that reason, you should develop a balanced, functional approach to jumping.
